2018 FIFA World Cup Round of 16: Belgium 3 - 2 Japan

World Cup: Tears of the Fans

Photos of the supporters working through their tears.

Japan suffered a heartbreaking defeat in their Round of 16 match on July 2, losing to Belgium 3-2 in the World Cup. It wasn't so much the final score as how they lost: They'd been up 0-2 into the second half, when Belgium began a remarkable comeback, eventually scoring the game winner in the 94th minute. Japan's supporters were understandably reeling. But the fans at Rostov Arena still stayed behind after the match ended to tidy up their supporters' section. (The team itself also got credit on social media afterward for cleaning up their dressing room and leaving a "Thank You" note in Russian.) Here, a look at Japan's fans working through their tears.
