The Perseid meteor shower — one of the most celebrated, spectacular, and predictable celestial displays — takes place every summer. This year, skywatchers who tuned in during peak nights between August 11 and August 13 were treated to the sight of 60 to 70 meteors per hour screaming across the sky as space rocks entered the Earth's atmosphere.
