Switzerland’s No. 6 ranking seems a bit inflated. The team has a questionable attack and had to eke past Northern Island on a contested penalty call just to qualify for Russia. History is not on their side either: The Swiss have not reached the quarterfinals of a World Cup since 1954. There is talent to spare in the midfield, however, starting with Arsenal star Granit Xhata and Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri. And if fullbacks Stephan Lichtsteiner and Ricardo Rodriguez are able to push forward and create chaos on the flanks, coach Vladimir Petkovic’s team could live up to its billing.
