The Senegalese have appeared in just one World Cup prior to this year but the Lions of Teranga made it count, advancing to the quarterfinals in 2002. Coach Aliou Cisse captained that team to glory and will look to repeat that performance in a tough Group H. Liverpool winger Sadio Mane is the team’s focal point and will be asked to create chances, and goals, for his country. But he’s far from alone: Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly anchors the backline and a trio of midflelders—Cheikhou Kouyate (West Ham United), Idrissa Gueye (Everton), and Pape Alioune Ndiaye (Stoke City) are established entities in England.
