There’s no disputing the fact that No. 7-ranked France has sufficient firepower to win the 2018 World Cup: With striker Antoine Griezmann at the tip of the spear, Paul Pogba patrolling the midfield, and Hugo Lloris in goal, Les Bleus have talent and depth to spare. But Didier Deschamps’ squad has displayed a frustrating tendency to underperform, playing down to its competition and refusing to take control of contests. Inexperience could factor in as well: The team’s average age is 26, and only nine on this roster participated in France’s 2016 Euro final run. That said, France’s roster features big-name stars from big-name clubs including Chelsea (Olivier Giroud), Paris St-Germain (Kylian Mbappe), Manchester United (Anthony Martial), and Barcelona (Ousmane Dembele).
Here, portraits of all 23 players on the 2018 World Cup squad.
