The Socceroos were one of the last teams to qualify for Russia and are likely to be one of the first teams bounced from the competition. Australia needed to win do-or-die playoffs against both Syria and Honduras just to book their ticket to Russia, and apparently that took a toll on coach Ange Postecoglou, who resigned immediately afterward. Bert van Marwijk is now in charge, and while he has a solid midfield core led by Massimo Luongo and Huddersfield Town’s Aaron Mooy, there are serious questions in defense. Former New York Red Bull Tim Cahill, 38, is back in the squad and will be looking to become one of a handful of players to score in four World Cups.
