John McCain’s Arizona Memorial: Heartbreaking Photos

The late senator's wife and children pay their respects at the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix.

Americans have begun formally paying their last respects to U.S. Senator John McCain, who died last Saturday at the age of 81. The memorial services for the statesman and war hero are taking place over the course of five days, at three different sites. In Phoenix on Wednesday, his family and fellow veterans said goodbye in a service at the Arizona State Capitol (on Thursday, his body will be flown to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, on Saturday he will be eulogized at Washington National Cathedral, and Sunday, he'll be laid to rest at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis). Here, photos from the first emotional scene.
