Caerlaverock Castle Hosts Spectacular Jousting Tournament

The Kind of Cosplay a 'Game of Thrones' Fan Might Love

It was a lovely weekend for some jousting action at Scotland's Caerlaverock Castle.

Aspiring knights were able to don their armor and grab their lances in Scotland on July 28 and 29 for a family-friendly day of jousting. Run by the foundation to promote Scottish history, the event took place, appropriately enough, on the grounds of the Caerlaverock Castle near Dumfries. Dating from the 13th century, Caerlaverock was the stronghold of the Maxwell clan for centuries. This weekend, it was the site of some lively medieval-style fun.
