Mothering on the Migrant Trails

Pictures of women's struggles and resilience in a global crisis.

Women make up almost half of the 250 million migrants and 20 million refugees fleeing war and poverty globally. For many of them, their difficult journeys are compounded by the challenges of motherhood. Some mothers gave birth in refugee camps; others crossed rivers and seas with their children in arms. Most lack basic necessities and care. The photos below show that despite the trying conditions, these mothers are determined to find a new, brighter future for the next generation.
