Billy Joel Performs 100th Lifetime Performance At Madison Square Garden

For the Hundredth Time: Billy Joel Plays Madison Square Garden

A look back at 40 years of the Piano Man at the Garden.

On July 18, 2018, New York native Billy Joel — the Piano Man, the Entertainer — performed at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the 100th time. Joel opened with "Big Shot" and closed with "You May Be Right." In between, he rolled out crowd favorites like "New York State of Mind," "Piano Man," and "Uptown Girl," and was joined by surprise guest Bruce Springsteen for renditions of the Boss's "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" and "Born to Run."

At a press conference before the show, New York governor Andrew Cuomo <a href="https://nypost.com/2018/07/19/springsteen-surprises-audience-at-billy-joels-100th-msg-show" target="_blank">officially proclaimed</a> July 18, 2018, &quot;Billy Joel Day.&quot; TIMOTHY A.
