Happy Birthday, Meryl Streep!

Let's celebrate with cake, candles — and all of her famous friends

The grand dame of America movies, Meryl Streep, turns 69 today. To celebrate, here's a collection of photos of Streep hanging out with her famous pals. And boy does she have friends: As the late, great Carrie Fisher once said to Streep, "You're either the best friend a person can have, or the best damned actress in the world." Maybe it's both. At an AFI Tribute to Streep in 2004, Ullman recounted the time they were both aboard an airliner that had to make an emergency landing. "I thought, 'Oh God, I'm definitely going to get second billing here,'" she told the audience. "I can see the headlines: Screen Legend Streep in Tunisian Air Disaster. Also Aboard: Limey Comedian Stacey Pullman." AL PACINO Images Press/Getty Images AL PACINO The two in 1980. Years later, they costarred together in the "Angels in America" miniseries. "With Meryl, you really feel very close to someone like her, because she just projects that 'thing.' And you know that she, too, is looking out for you, even though she’s doing her role," Pacino said to Entertainment Weekly in 2003.

"I've snogged her," Thompson said during a Hollywood Reporter roundtable. "And what I learned was, you have to use tongues even if you're not a lesbian." VIOLA DAVIS Gregg DeGuire/WireImage VIOLA DAVIS Streep and Davis costarred in 2008's "Doubt" and have since had a long run of mutual appreciation. Davis even introduced Streep ahead of her Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Globes in 2017. "You make me proud to be an artist," Davis said from the stage. "You make me feel that what I have in me, my body, my face, my age, is enough." Streep had a long, poignant friendship with Fisher and delivered the eulogy at her funeral in 2017. Streep actually played a fictional version of Fisher in the 1990 comedy "Postcards From the Edge," based on Fisher's memoir about her relationship with mother Reynolds. Fisher once joked, "After 'Postcards' premiered, I began daily to see the pain and disappointment in the eyes of my family and friends every time I wasn't Meryl." CHER Sylvain Gaboury/FilmMagic CHER The two met while filming the 1983 drama "Silkwood." "The first day on location," Cher told People magazine, "Meryl just came up, threw her arms around me and said, 'I'm so glad you're here.' She's all communication and warmth and friendship with a great sense of humor." HELEN MIRREN Kevin Winter/Getty Images for AFI HELEN MIRREN Mirren, Streep, and Cher in 2010. Mirren once referenced Streep in a rap battle with James Corden. “Compare me to Meryl, Judy, Maggie, but why? They’re not my competition, they’re my ride or die! See women are a force to be reckoned with. And I reckon I wrecked you." 50 CENT James Devaney/GC Images 50 CENT The two sat next to each other at a Knicks game in 2014. 50 Cent later told Rachael Ray that he was starstruck for the first time in a long time. "I was like, 'I'm regular.' I felt like I was normal again," he said. "Her aura is so strong." STANLEY TUCCI FRANCOIS GUILLOT/AFP/Getty Images STANLEY TUCCI Tucci and Streep starred together in "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Julie & Julia." "As I get to know Meryl more, it's interesting to note that she's smart and funny and kind, and having just cooked beside her for our next project, I realize that, like me, she cannot time a meal to save her life," said Tucci at an event in 2008.
