Dyed-green beer? A relatively new tradition. But parades and shamrocks have long been part of St. Patrick's Day celebrations, with Irish immigrants parading in New York City as early as 1762. St. Patty's greeting cards have been exchanged since at least the early 1900s. . . though the messaging has shifted a bit since then.
