For the Motherland: Soviet-Era Propaganda Posters

Artwork that influenced public opinion by the masses

For decades, the former Soviet Union relied on propaganda posters to deliver the Communist Party’s messaging to the masses. Calling on women, children, workers, and peasants, these early 20th-century posters utilized photo manipulation techniques and simple slogans with explicit calls-to-action to elicit the favor of the general public. From direct threats against the enemy to warnings against treason, these posters aimed to incite patriotism and pride for the motherland. Here, 15 of those posters, with accompanying translations.
